Women's World Cup 2019, Live Updating

The Fifa Women's World Cup kicks off on June 7 as the competing nations finalise their squads for this showpiece event.

Women's World Cup 2019, Live Updating

After hosts France announced their squad to a television audience of five million, England followed suit in making a statement.

Alongside the hashtag "BeReady", a host of famous faces with a combined social media following of 170 million - including the Duke of Cambridge, David Beckham, Raheem Sterling, Alex Scott and Emma Watson - were recruited to post a video of themselves on Twitter announcing a player who had booked their spot on the plane to France.

Germany, too, used social media to make their squad announcement and it received huge praise online for its message of female empowerment.

And, of course, Nike once again outdid itself in its support for the USA, with the words 'Having a dream won't change the world. Sharing one will'.

GROUP D

England (Fifa ranking: 3rd)

England's squad includes captain Steph Houghton, 11 World Cup debutants and Jill Scott and Karen Carney, both selected for their fourth World Cup.

The glaring but predicted omission is Lyon's Izzy Christiansen, whose ankle injury picked up at the SheBelieves Cup had left her chasing a spot. Veteran Fara Williams also missed the cut.

Speaking at Wembley Stadium – in a three-piece suit, including waistcoat – coach Phil Neville said using the platform of high-profile England supporters may add pressure, but that it was something his team are ready for.

"When we qualified for the World Cup, somebody texted me saying. 'Now your biggest job is to handle the expectation, don't get carried away', and all that rubbish," he said. "I was like, 'We ain't walking backwards now, we're charging forwards', and that's why we've been really brave and bold in everything we've done. Even today, we've not been shy from day one of telling everybody what our ambitions are.

"[This is] what we've always wanted: the big occasion, the full house, Nice, Scotland, millions watching back home on the BBC. You speak to senior players, they will say, 'This is what we dreamt about when we went to those park pitches, when we had no balls, when we had no coaches, we wanted to get to this stage in women's football'. Now we're here we can't be fearful of it, we've just got to charge forward. That's my philosophy and the philosophy of the team."

Scotland (Fifa ranking: 20th)

Scotland Women's boss Shelley Kerr has urged her side to embrace the challenge awaiting them in France.

Kerr's side take on England, Japan and Argentina this summer as they prepare to make their finals debut, and she has backed the squad she has painstakingly chosen to reach the knock-out stage.

She said: "It's our first time at the World Cup but the target has already been set. We want to get out the group stages. The most important thing though is that we embrace the occasion and have an enjoyable tournament. But it's more enjoyable if we win games and I have every confidence in this group of players that they can get us out of the group stages."

Arsenal midfielder Kim Little is set to make her first appearance at a major finals for Scotland after making Kerr's squad, having missed out on Euro 2017 through injury.

Manchester City defender Jen Beattie - daughter of former Scotland and British and Irish Lion rugby international John - has also secured her place on the flight to Nice, where Scotland will kick off their tournament against the Auld Enemy on June 9.
